This article will clue you in to how Retribution starts.
The Story Starts Here
The Free Territory is where your story takes place. You can view it on the map below.
The Aicatian United Tribes houses a tribe that goes by Norwaii. It is one of their eldest tribes with one of the weirdest histories. Roman Black first discovered this tribe during one of his famous expeditions. One of his crewmates decided he wanted to stay here: The tribe is a mix of local bloodlines and Original bloodlines, making for some interesting combinations. The Norwaii tribe houses a special bond with the Vallichian Empire. Despite being on the smaller side, the Norwaii Tribe has excellent relations with the empire. The reason is because of a marriage that is supposed to happen between Alexa Frost and Griffin Keno Tungsten.
The marriage was interrupted because Giffin is missing. The knights have tracked his location to the Free Territory.
The Marriage and the Gods
The gods are concerned because this marriage is supposed to bring the Aicatian Tribes into the good graces of the empire. More importantly, there could be war if Griffen is not found and brought home safely.
The gods have selected you to be part of this team, maybe because of your skill or maybe because they know you have nothing else. Regardless, they need this job done and are gifting you handsomely to do it. You're told that this assignment will be your trial run and that there is a much bigger job waiting for you if you return from the Free Territory.
You must return Griffen to the empire and speak with the king who will pay you when you arrive. You must also find a wedding gift for Alexa, who enjoys the finer things in life. Doing both these things will net you your reward.
Relheia tells your group you will be judged thoroughly on every choice you make. She also tells you that some decisions might seem clear but warns you to not be easily deceived. The Free Territory has no ruler, no government, and little to no structure. Finding the prince will be easy. Getting him out will be the challenging part.
Relheia provides you with his last known location, marked on your map.
Kreta tells your group to be on the lookout for anything that might seem out of the ordinary. She has her suspicions but won’t dive deeper into them. She also warns that the world is bigger than it appears, stay on course but don't ignore the little things.
She is honest. Kreta tells you they need people they can trust to be on the ground. They're not allowed to directly interfere with their world, but their pantheon and many others think something is brewing here.
Kreta provides you with The Master Book. A magical notebook that can be used to store important information. From time to time, she will add notes herself.
Thorn tells you what is really going on.
Griffen is being used as a test run. They want to see if your group has what it takes to dive deeper into the Bloodlines. Specifically, the gods want to know what is going on with the magic. Thorn believes a new kind of magic is brewing if it’s not already here. She needs answers. After you complete your first task, she will give you another job.
Thorn gives your party:
Tomb of Magic: Details on the magic on the planet.
Book of Bloodlines: Details on how bloodlines work.
Mission Journal: This journal will automatically update as new quests appear.
Zaione has nothing to say. However, he does mark some locations on your map.
Undite spends about an hour telling your group about how they must be careful in the Free Territory. He tells you the races there are unknown to him since they worship a different pantheon.
Undite asks for a favor; he wants a souvenir from your trip! In exchange, he will reward your group.
