Creating Crash: Human Barbarian

Crash Test is one of our many Megaverse mascots, and we will be using him for a lot of our examples. Crash Test is a human; each test dummy will feature a different race. So today lets create Crash Test the human barbarian.

Anytime you get the chance to try a new class, you should do it; that is what I aim to do with all these dummies.

As you can see, Crash Test has horrible stats. The 6 and 7 would normally cause me huge issues, but now this is all perfect: “Bad” stats really give you the chance to play around with your character.

This crash test dummy is going to be a barbarian. Why? So we have an opportunity to go through each class with a different dummy.

1’st Level

While raging, you gain the following benefits if you aren’t wearing heavy armor:

  • You have an advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.

  • When you make a melee weapon attack using Strength, you gain a bonus to the damage roll that increases as you gain levels as a barbarian, as shown in the Rage Damage column of the Barbarian table.

  • You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.

Rage will play a big part in this character and how he comes out, even though his stats suck rage will still be useful.

Unarmored Defense:

  • While you are not wearing any armor, your Armor Class equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Constitution modifier. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.

When we dive into my rule changes, the unarmored defense will play a massive role in the character.

These come with playing a barbarian:

  • Armor: Light armor, medium armor, shields

  • Weapons: Simple weapons, martial weapons

  • Tools: None

  • Saving Throws: Strength, Constitution

  • Skills: Choose two from Animal Handling, Athletics, Intimidation, Nature, Perception, and Survival

For this dummy, I will be picking:

  • Survival

  • I picked survival because he is a dummy.

  • Athletics

  • I picked athletics because he is a dummy.

Choosing Stat Locations:

  1. 13 was one of the highest scores, so I put it in strength:

  2. Dummies will need a lot of strength if they're going to get thrown around.

  3. 9 is not too low but is nowhere near as high as I would like.

  4. I put the 9 in dexterity because dexterity was not a high concern for this concept.

  5. 13 was one of the highest numbers, and the only one I got double of: For this reason, I had to put it in Constitution.

  6. Constitution is the second most important thing for this concept.

  7. Intelligence was of no concern for this concept so, it is one of his dump stats.

  8. Wisdom is also a dump stat.

  9. Charisma is the “fun” stat for this character. I was okay with placing the 8 here.

  10. What is a fun stat? A fun stat is a stat I will be using for roleplay.

“You strive to perfect yourself physically and in the execution of everything you do. The thrill of competition lights fire in your blood and the roar of the crowd drives you forward. Tales of your exploits precede you and might open doors or loosen tongues.

Whether in one of the poleis, between them or among the nonhuman peoples of Theros, physical contests and those who pursue them command respect bordering on reverence. Athletes arise from all walks of life and all cultures and quite often cross paths with one another.”

  • Skill proficiency in Acrobatics and Performance

  • He can also now speak Loxodon

  • I really suggest always trying a new langue when you can.

  • We also get the Echoes of Victory background feature.

I picked athlete because Crash is an athlete. He will get thrown around like one anyway.

For this character, we will be taking the starting equipment.

  1. A greataxe

  2. It is a barbarian classic.

  3. Two handaxes

  4. I can see this character tossing his weapons and failing. Maybe he swings and whips around because he is a tad weak.

  5. Leather Ball

  6. Lucky Charm

  7. He will wear some kind of necklace.
